The Sacred Island of Okinoshima and Associated Sites in the Munakata Region retain many aspects of the ancient worship of nature and tell the story of how Japanese culture and faith were nurtured through exchange.

This booklet has been compiled to provide an introduction t o the heritage sites and historical museums around the Munakata region, and also to six other museums in various regions of Japan that share many points in common with the sites of the Munakata region in tracing the history of faith and culture in Japan. The booklet details the particular appeals of these six other museums and their relationship to Munakata.
